2017级   外国语学院   刘梦

After the outlet shopping on weekend, we started our brand new week with full energy and enthusiasm. On Monday and Tuesday mornings, we concentrated on digital story making processes. Following writing tasks and self-modification, one of our teacher Siera helped polish our stories. Then We learned to use specific software to record our voices and edit materials with the help of a new teacher from Venezuela, who had got a PH.D in linguistics. We prepared ourselves both linguistically and technically after two-day’s language skill training class. Casual conversation always occurred in oral English class. During these two days of oral classes, Christina guided us to share our individual traveling experiences and we further discussed the cultural conflicts between two countries. We learn that although some Americans who have never been to China still have some negative comments against China, the progress and development of our country are obvious to all, and have been recognized by an increasing amount of population worldwide. So while we are embracing other cultures, its our responsibility to cherish and give full expression of our own.

The relaxing atmosphere in our English class made all of us dare and be willing to communicate and express ideas in English. Our English level indeed improved a lot.

To better balance study and exercise, the school also arranged for us free time on Monday afternoon and a pool party at night. So we decided to make full use of this opportunity to stretch our body. We paid a visit to the gym where the full exhibition of fitness equipment, clean pool and well decorated court attracted us at first sight. Some basketball fans in our team also had a fantastic match with native students, soon eliminating the sense of distance with them. Proving that sports are always the best way to establish friendships. The pool party and the delicious barbecue at night gave us a deep experience of the local lifestyle as well. After dinner the water volleyball also left us a impressive time and unforgettable memories.

Cultural heritage is another focus on our schedule, on Tuesday afternoon one of the most famous heritage sites Alamo in Texas was selected as our destination. Alamo was used to be a fortress occupied by American pioneers in the year 1835, after taking up Alamo, they stated to strengthen defense against Mexican troops. However, after 13 days of cruel siege of the city, the Mexican army finally occupied Alamo in 1836, and all male resisters were executed. The war of Alamo saved time and opportunity for the battle that followed. Three weeks later, the Texas Army with the battle slogan "Remember the Alamo!" made a decisive victory on the San Jacinto River.

After watching this historical documentary, we visited the ruins of Alamo, reminding us that it is still regarded as a myth in the history of the United States Army, as well as a symbol of courage and sacrifice of free will.

Next to Alamo is The San Antonio River's River Walk. It is known as Texas's premier entertainment destination, and this boulevard attracts visitors from all over the world. We traveled along the river by boat, bathed in the breeze on the river, and almost lost our selves in the beautiful sceneries along the riverside trails.

We all benefited a lot from these activities and looking forward to the next trip.
